Apprehensive of Avast free at first, (anything free for that matter). Once set up to auto run every day, I was impressed. It's stopped (on several occasions) the bad guys trying to enter from a seemingly safe site, and stopped them dead in their tracks. It auto upgrades virus files and keeps my box clean and running smooth. So impressed, I also picked up a couple other of their programs, and they work excellent also. Very satisfied. Sept2012

Pros
  • File shields, Network shields, Web & Mail shields, Auto (daily) run schedule, Auto Updates, Auto Sandbox suspicious files, Good community Q&A's, Good User Manual, Clean interface.
Cons
  • Slows system down while running in background, a small price to pay for such good protection. The first time I ran Avast, I had it perform a *deep scan* and it took several hours to complete, but scans thereafter, run much quicker.
